DNA Testing Kits: Your Genetic JourneyThere may be many reasons why you need to purchase DNA testing kits. It may be due to a parentage issue, a medical or legal issue, or simply a curiosity issue. Regardless of what the issue may be, you know that genetic testing needs to be completed in order to find those answers. While you may be looking for the most economical means to complete this journey, you will want to consider several factors prior to your purchase. Your research may take you to the nearest drugstore, or it may take you to a resource available online to locate your test. You will want to choose a paternity test that is highly accurate, affordable and easy to use. Following the collection of the DNA sample, where you will not want to take the cheap way out is in your selection of genetic testing labs.
For a lab to be highly accurate, the lab needs to use highly advanced technology to guarantee their accuracy. The lab will use a genetic identification system that use no less than a minimum of 15 genetic markers, and the testing should be completed in an accredited genetic lab. The accreditation process is a means by which to test the lab for its technical competency, and its ability to provide accurate and reliable testing. The lab undergoes accrediting by external assessors used that are known as standards and procedures to determine the technical competence. If the lab follows these standards, it is possible to conduct an evaluation of factors that are critical in the production of the test.* The aspects that are covered include the experience, qualifications, and technical ability of key staff who are conducting the tests. The maintenance of the testing equipment is also held to standards so that the data is accurate. The environment is also assessed in which the genetic testing is conducted. The way the samples are handled, recorded, and moved around the lab, and this includes the traceability of the samples. The equipment undergoes periodic quality assurance programs of the testing and the calibration of the equipment. Key staff is able to identify problems and solve them effectively. If all of these aspects are followed, then the lab operates to the required standards. From this information, you can rest assure that the lab produces accurate and reliable testing on a continuous basis so that they have ensured the most accurate results of your genetic test. With that in mind, you will probably not want to select a lab based on how cheap they will perform the analysis of the genetic test. However, DNA testing kits will not ensure quality. To ensure that paternity results are accurate, most labs will look at up to 15 genetic markers. However, there are some who will go further and look at more. Keeping in mind, the 16th genetic marker determines the sex of the child. Some labs require that all samples are processed twice to confirm the results. The results are issued with absolute confidence that they are accurate, correct, and reproducable. Each case should be treated with care and expertise, and the lab should be attuned to superior customer service. Every case can be sensitive and for this reason, the lab should strive for making the whole process very straightforward. While accredited labs may not be cost driven, the importance of conducting genetic testing carries much responsibility, and they should take what they do very seriously. Accredited labs have quality standards to maintain high levels of expertise and accuracy. However, with in-home DNA testing kits, the samples are taken by the clients themselves, and there is no independent verification, and there is no independent verification of the DNA samples. So what this means is the lab is unable to confirm the identity of the individuals who doing the test. The collection of the DNA samples is the cheap part of the process of genetic testing. |

There is less often a question of paternity, and even if the marriage ends in separation or divorce, both parents still usually have custody and/or visitation rights. For unmarried couples, however, the issue of having a child can be much more complicated. Fathers and partners in a couple must take extra steps to assure that they are granted legal parental status in an unmarried relationship.
