DBS DNA Isolation Kit

This Dried Blood Spot DNA Isolation Kit is designed for the rapid extraction of total genomic DNA from dried blood spots. The purification process utilizes spin column chromatography, where the column selectively binds DNA under high-salt conditions and releases it under low-salt, slightly alkaline conditions. Genomic DNA is preferentially purified over RNA and cellular proteins. The resulting DNA is fully digestible with commonly used restriction enzymes and is compatible with downstream applications, including Southern blot analysis.

The kit allows for the isolation of genomic DNA from blood samples of various species, including humans. Blood should be spotted and dried on appropriate filter paper or specimen collection cards. DNA yield will vary depending on the cell density of the blood sample. Preparation of a single sample typically takes around 30 minutes, and each kit provides sufficient reagents for 50 extractions.
